Danhiko History/Discription

Since 1990 Gloster Global has been a supporting partner of the Danhiko Project in Zimbabwe.

Danhiko is a Shona word that is translated as steps, or ladder. It symbolizes the offer of a helping hand and a means of climbing up to achieve one’s aspirations despite obstacles.
Conceived as such a means, the Danhiko Project was born in Harare in 1981, in the wake of Zimbabwe’s war of liberation.

Founded as an educational and vocational center for war-wounded, orphaned, and disabled children, the Danhiko Project has created a place for the disabled and able-bodied alike to work and learn together. Equipping all with the tangible skills and practical knowledge, as well as an academic education, Danhiko helps sustain itself producing original goods, including award-winning textiles and furniture, and has a small-electronic and computer repair facility. Danhiko has also been privileged to serve as host to the Pan-African Disabled Games.

In 1999 Gloster Global was pleased to join the chair of Danhiko’s board of trustees in Geneva, Switzerland to receive an International Gold Star Award for Quality and Excellence on behalf of the Danhiko textile division.
